Washington College Shoremen soccer

The Washington College Men's Soccer Team represent the Shoremen of Washington College in the Centennial Conference of Division III Soccer in the NCAA. Washington College is located on the Eastern Shore in Chestertown, Maryland.
== History ==

The Shoremen Men's Soccer Team has been around since 1946 where they posted a record of 4-3 under coach Henry Carrington. For the next 3 seasons after that, the Shoremen had 3 different head coaches who included Turner Hastings in 1947 posting an 8-0 record, Lambert Coakley in 1948 posting an 8-8 record, and Edward L. Athey 1949-1950 posting a combined record of 9-6-3. In 1951-1952 Howard Nesbitt had a brief stint as head coach posting a combined 6-9-4 record until 1953 when Athey took back over. Athey would assume the head coaching duties until 1981 where he had much success. With an overall record of 176-105-37, Athey led the Shoremen to 2 MAC championships in 1954 and 1969; had MAC Tournament appearances in 1954, 1959, 1965, 1969, 1971, and 1973; 2 Mason Dixon Conference Championships in 1961 and 1964;5 Mason Dixon Tournament appearances in 1961, 1964, 1969, 1971, and 1973; and 1 NCAA tournament appearance in 1973. Tom Bowman would be the successor to Athey and would assume head coaching duties from 1982-1989 where he posted a record of 46-77-9. Peter Allen then took over the head coaching job for a year in 1990 where his team went 3-14-2. From 1991-1996, Todd Helbling coached the Shoremen to a 44-54-13 record. Lin Outten would experience a little bit more success in his time as head coach from the years 1997-2005 where he led the Shoremen to an ECAC tournament appearance in 2000 and posted and overall record of 65-57-10. Currently, Drew Hoffman is the head coach of the Washington College Shoremen Men's Soccer Team. Since 2006, Hoffman has an overall record of 26-55-2. Hoffman is assisted by a Washington College Alumni, Brian Schultz and Briggs Cunningham (Yale 79'). Schultz had a successful career playing soccer for the Shoremen from 2005-2008 where he garnered multiple individual accolades.〔http://www.washingtoncollegesports.com〕
